I discuss with the buyer the needs of the performer, the design and we share visual references if any exist. After which I come up with a sketch or two. Once a desired sketch is found the buyer signs off and construction begins. If I am sculpting I can send pictures of the sculpt to the client or if the client is local they can visit my studio. Once the sculpt is finalized I proceed to “skin” the piece. If I am not sculpting then sewing will begin.
If I am working in rubber or neoprene then a mold must be made of the sculpt and the neoprene or latex is cast into it. When I have a finished formthe mask is fit to an average size head unless the performer is available, painted. This can include the application of fur, fabric, any thing the design requires, and shipped out.
